about Shippo
Shippo-yaki (Cloisonne enamel) is a traditional art form where colorfurl glassy enamel is applied to the surface of metal and then fired. Similar techniques have been found in ancient Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilizations, dating back to before the Common Era.
It is believed that this technique traveled from Europe along the Silk Road, passing through China before arriving in Japan.
In English, it is often called cloisonné enamel, but in Japan, it is known as shippo.
